  • The Lifespan of a Cockapoo: How Long Do Cockapoos Live?

The Cockapoo, a beloved crossbreed between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, is known for its affectionate nature, intelligence, and hypoallergenic coat. One of the many reasons they are so popular is their relatively long lifespan, which ranges from 12 to 15 years. With proper care, some Cockapoos have even been known to live beyond 15 years. Factors Affecting a Cockapoo’s Lifespan 1. Genetics: The hybrid vigor of Cockapoos often contributes to their overall health. Inherited conditions from the parent breeds, the Poodle and Cocker Spaniel, also enhance the longevity of Cockapoos. 2. Diet: Providing a balanced, nutrient-rich diet is key to maintaining their health and longevity. Obesity can lead to various health problems and reduce their lifespan. 3. Exercise: Regular physical activity helps keep a Cockapoo fit, preventing obesity and maintaining their joint and heart health. 4. Routine Veterinary Care: Preventative care, such as vaccinations, dental hygiene, and regular check-ups, plays a crucial role in extending their lifespan. 5. Living Conditions: A safe, loving home environment contributes to their mental and physical well-being, promoting a longer life. Conclusion Cockapoos are a wonderful addition to any family, offering years of companionship and joy. With the right care, the average Cockapoo lifespan of 12 to 15 years can be a fulfilling and cherished time for both the dog and their owner. Whether you already own a Cockapoo or are considering adopting one, investing in their health and happiness is the best way to ensure they live a long, vibrant life. A mini cockapoo puppy

  • Snowsong is an Ontario Siberian Husky and Cockapoo Breeder

A mini Ontario Cockapoo puppy Our journey began years ago, as a young teenager, when our parents began breeding Great Pyrenees. As we attended many dog shows, I fell in love with the beautiful Siberian Husky. In my early twenties, still newly married, we moved out of our apartment into a house. Within a couple of months, we were looking at our own Siberian Husky. Actually we brought home two Huskies. And the journey began. Another chapter opened when we met Marley. A good friend was raising Cockapoos here in Ontario. We stopped by to say hello and met Marley and her siblings the day after they were born. It was love at first sight. We adopted our little Cockapoo and waited for her to become eight weeks old. Life with Marley opened a new window in our lives. We discovered the world of Cockapoos. We decided to include the wonder of Cockapoos with our Siberian Huskies and become an Ontario Cockapoo Breeder . A blue yeyed Ontario Husky puppy

  • How Much to Feed a Husky Puppy

A baby Husky puppy from Snowsongs Coda and Asher Feeding a Husky puppy the right amount of food is essential for their growth and health. The amount you should feed depends on their age, size, and activity level, but most Husky puppies require 2 to 3 cups of high-quality puppy food per day, divided into three meals. Personally, I prefer to free feed my Huskies. While occasionally a Husky will take advantage of this and we need to adjust, most Huskies will regulate their eating on their own. A Simple Feeding Schedule by Age • 8–12 weeks: Feed 3-4 small meals per day to support their rapid growth and energy needs. • 3–6 months: Transition to 3 meals per day as their stomach capacity increases. • 6–12 months: Reduce to 2 meals per day as they approach adulthood. Choosing the Right Food Select a puppy food specifically formulated for medium to large breeds. Look for a balance of protein, fat, and essential nutrients to fuel their energy and support bone and muscle development. Monitoring Weight and Growth Husky puppies are naturally lean and should not appear overweight. Regularly check their body condition and adjust portions as needed. Always provide fresh water, and avoid overfeeding, as Huskies are prone to digestive issues if they eat too much at once. Consult your veterinarian to tailor a feeding plan to your puppy’s specific needs, ensuring they grow into a healthy and happy adult Husky.

  • What Age is Best to Spay a Cockapoo?

The ideal age to spay a Cockapoo typically falls between 6 to 12 months, depending on their size, health, and lifestyle. Spaying your Cockapoo before her first heat cycle (around 6 months) can help reduce the risk of certain health issues, such as mammary tumors and uterine infections. For larger Cockapoos, waiting until closer to 12 months may be advisable to allow full development, especially for bone and joint health. Consulting your veterinarian is essential to determine the best timing based on your dog’s specific needs. Spaying not only prevents unwanted pregnancies but also promotes a healthier, longer life for your Cockapoo. At Snowsong we typically breed mini Cockapoo and would recommend closer to the 6 month mark. The competitions of an unplanned pregnancy, if one of your neighbours have a male dog, can be expensive as well as challenging for your Cockapoo. A pregnancy before a dog is one year old is not good due the fact the mother dog is still developing herself in these months. Be safe. Plan ahead. Consult with your vet about their practice and experience. You’ll be thankful for the years to come. A mini cockapoo puppy from Snowsong Siberians and Cockapoos

  • How to Deal with Husky Shedding

Siberian Huskies are double-coated dogs, which means shedding is inevitable, especially during seasonal coat blows in spring and fall. To manage the fur explosion, regular grooming is essential. Brush your Husky 2–3 times a week using an undercoat rake or de-shedding tool to remove loose fur and prevent matting. Bathing your Husky during shedding season can also help loosen the dead hair, but be sure to use a dog-friendly shampoo and dry them thoroughly. A high-powered pet dryer can be a lifesaver. Invest in a good vacuum and lint rollers to keep your home fur-free. We vacuum every day. Feeding your Husky a high-quality diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids promotes a healthy coat and reduces excessive shedding. Remember, shedding is a natural part of being a Husky owner. With consistent care, you can keep their coat looking great and your home under control. A grey Husky puppy from Snowsong Siberians playing in the snow.

  • Why Do Huskies Howl?

Siberian Huskies are known for their expressive and vocal nature, with howling being one of their most iconic traits. This behavior harks back to their ancestral roots as pack animals. In the wild, wolves howl to communicate across long distances, whether to locate their pack, warn of danger, or establish territory. Huskies , being close relatives of wolves, have retained this instinct. Huskies also howl as a way to express themselves. They might be responding to sirens, music, or other high-pitched sounds, mistaking them for another howl. Sometimes, they howl to seek attention or convey emotions like loneliness or excitement. Interestingly, Huskies don’t bark as much as other breeds but use howling as their primary form of communication. Understanding this unique trait helps owners appreciate their Husky’s heritage and personality, turning each howl into a glimpse of their rich, pack-driven history. A wolf grey husky pup howling

  • How to Leash Train Your Puppy

Leash training is an essential skill for puppies, ensuring safe and enjoyable walks. Start by introducing your puppy to the collar or harness, allowing them to wear it indoors to get comfortable. Once they’re at ease, attach a lightweight leash and let them drag it around under supervision. Husky puppy from Snowsong Siberians and Cockapoos Next, practice walking indoors or in a secure yard. Use treats or toys to encourage your puppy to follow you. Keep sessions short and positive, rewarding them for staying near you without pulling. If your puppy pulls, stop walking and wait for them to return to your side before moving again. (As Huskies are known to pull, this takes some time and work.) Avoid yanking the leash, as this can create fear or resistance. Patience and consistency are key. Over time, gradually increase distractions and practice in different environments. If you have another dog, walking your puppy together. No Cockapoo or Husky likes to be left behind, even as a puppy. With dedication, your puppy will learn to walk politely on a leash, making every outing a joyful experience! Asher, A Snowsong Siberians Husky
